About Us

Established in October 2021 in Columbia, South Carolina to celebrate the life and legacy of First Lieutenant Justice R. Stewart, the Empowering Justice Charitable Foundation raises funds through various fundraising opportunities and donations. This foundation supports organizations that promote pathways out of poverty through: 

  • Empowering youth

  • Supporting authentic opportunities for leadership

  • Promoting youth advocacy

  • Promoting military alliances in the community

  • Strengthening communities through youth voice & expression

As an extension of our primary mission, the foundation also supports college ROTC programs as a way to honor sacrifices service members have made and to aid in the recruitment and retention efforts to create and maintain a diverse officer corps.

Justice Regine' Stewart was born on December 22, 1995, in Columbia, South Carolina. She attended South Carolina public schools in Richland School District Two. She graduated from Richland Northeast High School, Class of 2014.

She attended the illustrious Spelman College in Atlanta, GA where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science in May of 2018. Upon completion of OCS, she was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps where she served as a Logistics Officer. She was promoted to 1st LT in the Fall of 2020.

 

On June 27, 2021, while jogging she was hit and killed by a reckless and impaired driver. She departed this world, leaving behind many sweet memories shared by her friends and family and her writing which will continue to touch the hearts and souls of generations to come. Within only 25 years of life, Justice reached many of her goals that made her feel accomplished and fulfilled. Her loving family continues to promote her work and kindred spirit that watches over them every day. Justice will be remembered as a fun-loving, courageous, ambitious, passionate, dedicated, free-spirited person whose radiant smile reflected her joyful spirit.

Scholarships and Awards

The Empowering Justice Charitable Foundation hosts several events through the year. The 5K Run/Walk is the biggest event of the year. In 2022, over 200 participants gathered to show support and to honor 1st LT Justice R. Stewart. Over 20 companies sponsored the 5K event! 

We are in the planning phase to host other various events throughout the year. Subscribe to stay updated!

All net proceeds from our hosted events go to our foundation to support youth in need of financial support for educational purposes and for professional opportunities. 

In 2022, the Empowering Justice Charitable Foundation awarded scholarships to high school graduates from Richland School District Two in South Carolina. Several scholarships are available and are usually open in the fall of each year. Check out our scholarships page for more information!

1st LT Justice R. Stewart is a published poet under the pen name Jay Regine' which has recently been changed to Kween Regine.
